As Herman Cain continues to gain in the GOP presidential polls, people, especially the media, are beginning to look closer at his 9-9-9 economic plan. One interesting finding by the media, as reported by the Huffington Post, is the fact that Cain’s taxation plan looks similar to that of a well known virtual life game called SimCity.

In SimCity4, released in 2003, the default economic settings in the game have a 9% commercial tax rate, a 9% industrial tax rate and a 9% residential tax rate. Creators of the game said they set the simple tax structure so that players could focus on “building their cities and have fun thwarting giant lizard attacks, rather than be buried by overly complex financial systems.”

Cain’s economic plan was created by a Wells Fargo employee by the name of Richard Lowrie, who according to the press does not have any formal training in public policy or economics.
